It's so much easier than this:

And while your at it, please fix the blogroll list gadget so we can put our fellow bloggers on the sidebar instead of a vast void of empty space.

2012 Topps-Surf's Up!

Well, I went back to Kmart yesterday and there in the aisle were jumbo hanger packs of 2012 Topps Baseball. So, I went ahead and got 2 packs of them and brought them home.

I'm here, Huckleberry
When I opened the first pack I had a feeling my thoughts on this set would change a bit. Not a complete 180 degrees(they need to add that to keyboards*)but about a 100 degree change.

When I first saw them on all the other blogs I really let the surfboard get to me.

But...........

Ryan Braun Poll!

Hey there!

I've put up a poll on the sidebar about how you feel about the Ryan Braun situation. I left the answers  germane enough but not slanted either way.

Just interested how everybody feels about it in a general sense.

Thanks for voting!

Update: I done goofed and deleted the poll. It's up again. Sawwy.

Blog Roll On Sidebar?

How does everybody else get all the blogs they are following to show up in the sidebar?

I've tried limiting it to just 25 shown, then 10, then 5, and that didn't work.

I tried just showing the icon and that didn't work.

Could it be the 331 card blogs I'm trying to import from Google Reader?

Please comment if you have any help to offer.

Thanks!

Ron Santo's Birthday.......

...is today. He was born in 1940. He quit baseball at a still productive age in the mid 70's because of diabetes. Should have been in the Hall by the early 80's. We all know how fraternal certain places can be. Augusta, Canton, Springfield, and Cooperstown. I guess some people don't "earn their way" until they leave this world and the putzes that dissed them don't have to talk to that person about their "rite of passage'.

Happy birthday Ronnie! And up yours, Hall of Shame.

Most passionate Cub fan-ever.

2011 Topps Jumbo Pack

Went to the local Kmart to check out the card aisle. Didn't have any 2012 Topps cards in but I wasn't going to buy any if they did.

They did have some 2011 Topps  Series 1 Jumbo packs of 36 at a discounted price.

So I picked one out and here are the goods:

Random Wrigley Rockers 1

Hey guys(and gals)! Been a bit since last posting but I'm just busy reading all your great blogs!

Here is a little series I am going to blog about. As the title implies, it is about mashers at the Friendly Confines. Guys that could simply ROCK the ball out onto Waveland or Sheffield.

First up we have the most obvious one first. Mr. Cub, Ernie Banks.

Cold As Ice

Here is Mark Buehrle's 2002 Topps card.

Here is the back.

To quote manager Jerry Manuel:

"For a young guy, he seems to have ice water in his veins".

I wonder if he's going to melt down in Miami. They might just want to use him in night games and keep a walk in freezer on hand.

2012 Topps Poll Results

The poll I had on the sidebar concerning your planned pursuit of 2012 Topps is over and I wanted to give the final results.
  • 2 people are going for the whole set.
  • 2 people are planning on getting a box of wax.
  • 6 people are going for just a few packs.
  • 1 person is not going to bother.
With such a small sample group it isn't a lot to go on but 63% of those who voted aren't going to give this set a whole bunch of attention.

Just wanted to get some opinions of the overall feeling of this set.

Thanks for reading. And voting!

Glenallen Hill......

was a fun player to watch at bat.

He was also a fun player to watch in the field. For the other team anyway(he was brutal).

He was a also a doper.

But that helped him do this:

And you thought PED's were bad for the game.

Glenallen enjoyed it. Right, Glen?

Cal Ripken, Jr.........

was actually a Cleveland Indian before he was an Oriole. But he was found to be using an alias:

Mr. 'Bannister' was promptly sent to the Orioles so his dad could set him straight.

Back in 1986....

I walked into

in Washington, Illinois with about $150 I got in birthday money that day. Back then, that was a haul for a birthday. Well, for 95% of us anyways.

I went in there with the intentions of buying some wax. This was the first time I had bought any cards.

Here is what was on the shelves:

2 boxes of

I started collecting....

26 years ago. Right around this time of the year. This is the guy(and card) that got me started:

My Topps Diamond Giveaway Cards....

are staying right where they are at. Like most of us, cash is stretched out and I don't want to pay inflated shipping for these cards. But I really want to.

Since I opted for this course I took screenshots of all the goodies I diligently acquired over these past months.

Well, here is what I'm leaving behind:

Ray Knight....

is a former boxer and member of the Golden Gloves association.

But apparently on this card he dropped his right glove and got the silly knocked out of him.

It also looks like the cutter at Topps took a cheap shot while cutting this sheet.

Hopefully...

After seeing this awesome card and realizing I will never see the Heritage version of 2004 Topps in my(or Topps?)lifetime, it's kind of depressing. 2004 Topps is one of my favorite sets, period. Clean and beautiful-front and back.

Which set is the one you most want to see Heritagized(yes, it's a word.....somewhere)in your lifetime but figure you might not get to see?
