Topps Without Borders-2006

I am removing the borders from the Topps designs year by year.

This time it is 2006:

2006 Topps Ozzie Guillen

I didn't like this set when it came out and this makes it less unlikeable but it is still ugly.

The top black banner reminds me of the hideous banner on top of 2002 Donruss.

Yuck. Either way you look at it.

Oh yeah, bye Ozzie.

Topps Without Borders-2007

I am removing the borders from the Topps designs year by year.

This time it is 2007:

2007 Topps Kerry Wood

Like the 2008 set, this makes the photo much more prevalent.

I like how the color squares accentuate the corners.

The side bleed photo is rather unique as well.

Up next, 2006 Topps.

Topps Without Borders-2008

I am removing the borders from the Topps designs year by year.

This time it is 2008:

2008 Topps Matt Murton
Yeah, it looks terrible, but as I alluded to in the 2009 post, the photo is much bigger like this and you can actually make out the player!

Still can't make up for that hideous hanging Topps bulge over the photo. That bulge is the main reason the picture looks small in the first place and it kept this set from being a classic.

Up next, 2007 Topps.

Topps Without Borders-2009

I am removing the borders from the Topps designs year by year.

This time it is 2009:

2009 Topps Ken Griffey, Jr.
It seems to accent the design better than it does with the white border.

The thing with the recent string of white bordered flagship designs from Topps is that it makes everything within the border smaller, which hurts the photo the most. 2008 Topps is the biggest offender of this design trend, and it is coming up in the next post.

Topps Without Borders-2010

I am removing the borders from the Topps designs year by year.

This time it is 2010:

2010 Topps Ian Desmond

I really like the look of this 'design'.

It has an insert card look to it.

Looks slick and polished.

I thought the white border on this set kind of diminished the colors on the left side.

Hey There, Mke!

Never noticed this spelling error:

'Mke' Maroth

Now he just appears to consider himself a rapper instead of a really hard luck pitcher.

You down with MKE?

Yeah, you know me!

Dumbest Inserts Ever

These came inside a couple of blasters I picked up and were in a separate wrapper, one per blaster.

You've all seen them but not one of us has figured out what they are good for:

Such useless cards.

No history is involved here. Nor is the stitching of historic value.

Just histrionics by Topps.
